My Definition of Technology Integration

Technology Integration is the process of effectively utilizing technology in the classroom to teach the state mandated curriculum. Ineffective technology use does not integrate technology and the curriculum. In order to ensure that technology is implemented properly in the classroom teachers need professional development courses that instruct how, when, and why to incorporate technology. Looking at technology through the backwards design process is one way of ensuring that technology is utilized as an instructional and assessment tool. This can be accomplished by deciding what technology will be integrated and then what topics from the standard will correlate with the technology.

  1. I don't hear many people talking about backward design, but we have used it at our school for 4 years. It provides a clear view of what you need to teach to cover the standards. I feel it makes integrating, differentiating, and assessing easier.

  2. We don't really call it backward design at my school, but that's basically what we're doing, too. I think it makes it much easier to establish a "plan of attack."

  3. My definition is similar to yours. I, too, stressed the importance of training. Teachers need to be trained and they need to collaborate. Trying to take on a new technology alone can be a daunting task.
